Who We Are and What We Do
Opened in 1974, Oceanside Ice Arena is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Desert Youth Hockey Association. The arena is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and operated by six full-time employees and 20 part-time employees. Oceanside Ice Arena is open everyday from early in the morning to late at night and maintains its 200′ × 89′ ice sheet year-round.
Although we specialize in hockey we also offer public skating, figure skating, broomball, and private events. We generally have figure skating sessions weekdays 4:30-9:00 AM. Regular public skating sessions are offered April – August and seasonal sessions are offered during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. Oceanside Adult Hockey League has 30 teams that play games every night of the week except Friday. Desert Youth Hockey Association’s 14 teams practice and play home games at Oceanside Ice Arena on weeknights and weekend days. Arizona State University fields 3 teams (D1, D2, D3) in the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Oceanside Ice Arena is proud to be ASU’s home arena by hosting practices during the day on weekdays and games every Friday and Saturday nights and some Sunday afternoons.
Arena and Ice Conditions
Our ice is maintained at 22-23 degrees year-round. The ethylene glycol that circulates through the pipes in the floor and freezes the ice is chilled to 17-18 degrees.
The main part of the arena is not cooled or heated by traditional HVAC. The temperature is determined by outside air temperature and the mass of ice inside. Typical winter temperature inside is 55 degrees and summer temperature is 75 degrees.
First Aid/ CPR/ AED
- All employees are trained in First Aid/ CPR/ AED on an annual basis
- First Aid cabinets are in the office on east side of arena and in mechanical room on west side of arena
- Automated External Defribillator (AED) is located on the east wall next to the office door
Ice Resurfacers
Primary machine is a ZAMBONI 552. It’s an all-electric zero emission machine that was purchased factory refurbished in 2009.
Backup machine is a ZAMBONI 525. It’s powered by a 4-cylinder VW engine and fueled by propane. This machine was purchased brand new in 1998.
