Skate & Surf Hockey Camp

Skate & Surf is an exciting all-day summer activity offered by Oceanside Ice Arena in partnership with our neighbor Big Surf Waterpark. We offer a half-day of hockey and a half-day of water fun, with lunch included. Drop the kids off at 8 AM and come back to pick up by 3:45 PM!

Skate & Surf runs in the summer Monday – Friday from June 4 – 22 & July 9 – 27. We do not hold camp June 25 – July 6.

Each session features professional on-ice and off-ice hockey instruction plus 3 hours of supervised fun at Big Surf Waterpark, which borders the rink on the south side of our parking lot.

Both House and Travel youth players and goalies age 7-14 are welcome to attend. We ask that every player has at least 1 year of hockey experience prior to enrolling in Skate & Surf. Every summer we have kids from every youth hockey association in the state plus kids from other states who come in for vacation.

Your child’s safety is our #1 priority: all coaches, chaperones, and administrators are Safe Sport certified, first aid/ CPR certified, and background checked prior to the camp

Oceanside Ice Arena reserves the right to expel players from the camp for persistent behavior deemed to be disruptive to the camp and/or detrimental to other player’s enjoyment of the camp. Expulsion and/or suspension is at the sole discretion of Oceanside Ice Arena management. Refunds/ credits are not considered for expulsions and suspensions. Bullying will not be tolerated.

All players receive a FREE Skate & Surf hockey camp jersey and a FREE Skate & Surf drawstring bag whether you are a 1-day drop-in or buy a pass. Limited to one per player per summer.*

On-Ice Activities

This camp is all about individual skill development. Each session is customized to provide intensive instruction in a friendly, positive atmosphere with a genuine desire to improve the hockey skills of every player. Players need to be ready to work hard and give us 100% of their energy and attention. However, it is summer time and FUN will always be the focus.

Off-Ice Activities

Lots of different activities in our new and improved outdoor mini-rink

Floorball, soccer, shooting lanes, dangle stations, plyometrics, agility drills, and much more

Videos in the Snack Bar during breaks

Specialized Goalie Instruction

We are scheduling to have a goalie coach on the ice every day of the camp this summer. Goalies pay the regular drop-in or pass rate and get specialized instruction. In the first on-ice session goalies will work with the goalie instructor and do goalie specific drills. In the second on-ice session the goalies will be incorporated into the player drills with live shots and will be monitored by the goalie coach.

@ Oceanside Ice Arena

  • Camp coaches and chaperones will supervise the players at all times both on and off the ice. Kids will be supervised by coaches and chaperones during off ice training, in the locker room before and after the on ice sessions, during the snack break, and while gearing up for the afternoon at Big Surf.

What if I don’t want to go to Big Surf in the afternoon and would rather leave at 12:30?

We understand that kids may not want to go to Big Surf every day or at all for that matter. That is fine – the hockey in the mornings is the important part. We set the pricing based on the 4 hours of supervision in the morning. The free lunch and free Big Surf pass in the afternoon is an added value so we are not able to offer discounts for mornings only.

What if on one day there are 10 players and another day there are 20?

No problem – Brad Priest has qualified assistant coaches on hand in case we need more help. Brad has 15 years of experience in coaching large groups of young players so he can scale the session to meet the needs of different numbers of participants.

What do I do with my hockey gear while I’m at Big Surf?

Players will change into their swim gear in the locker room and leave their gear in the locker room until pick up in the afternoon. Locker room will be locked.

Where will my daughter get geared up and change into swim attire?

We dedicate 1 locker room just for females.

Will the SNACKBAR be open?

Yes, we will be open serving up pretzels, nachos, candy, chips, hot dogs, trail mix, Dippin’ Dots, soda, Gatorade drinks/bars/shakes, water, all the stuff your kid loves!

Do you offer a sibling discount?

Yes, we allow siblings to share a multi-day pass and that makes it even more affordable.

My child is a brand new player with less than 1 year of hockey experience – should he/she still participate in this camp?

Probably not. To qualify for this camp you do not need to be a travel hockey player by any means but you do have to be able to skate and have played organized hockey for at least 1 year.
